Abeka Book Curriculum

At Tomlin Academy, we follow the Abeka Curriculum: a high-quality curriculum that educates children from a Christian perspective. Abeka aims to give students a strong educational foundation to carry them through their educational journey and into a lifetime of learning.

Abeka has three main aims, which align with those of Tomlin Academy:

Intellectual Growth

As with any curriculum, our focus is on helping students to develop intellectually. This will look different for each child, but we focus on traditional milestones, with a strong focus on phonics and reading, as well as Mathematics, History and Science/Health.

Moral Growth

We teach children to understand the difference between right and wrong. Teaching social skills such as teamwork, leadership and individual accountability helps to instill moral values in our children and provides them with the tools to succeed alongside each other; we use biblical stories to support this process.

Spiritual Growth

By infusing Christian teachings into the curriculum, students grow spiritually, applying biblical truths to their own lives and understanding the role of prayer and Scripture.

Creative Curriculum

At Tomlin Academy, we also focus on Creative Curriculum, which aims to foster critical thinking and confidence through hands-on learning, intentional teaching strategies, and meaningful partnerships with families. We believe that children learn best through play, active exploration, and real-life experiences.

Our Creative Curriculum centers around 5 components:

  • Knowing how children develop and learn and the characteristics and experiences that make each child unique.

  • Creating a responsive, rich learning environment, a daily schedule, and weekly plans that provide direction but allow flexibility.

  • Understanding what children are learning in language and literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology.

  • Using a variety of intentional teaching strategies to build positive relationships with children, teach all children effectively, follow their progress, and guide their behavior.

  • Building meaningful partnerships with families to support children’s optimal development and learning.
